'Bichagadu 2' is currently showing in cinemas. The film is the Telugu-dubbed version of 'Pichaikkaran 2' (Tamil) and is not a strict sequel. In this section, we are going to review the latest box-office release.
Story:
Vijay Gurumurthy (Vijay Antony) is the 7th richest Indian and is surrounded by enemies in the guise of friends. His friend, lawyer, and doctor attempt to inject his brain with the thinking of a beggar named Satya (Vijay Anthony, again). The rest of the film is about the consequences of a rare surgery after which Vijay starts thinking like Satya. The plot has a place for Anti Bikili, an ideology that is about a bloodless revolution against the so-called exploiting class.
Performances:
After 'Bichagadu' in 2016, Vijay Antony's performances didn't click with the Telugu audience. But 'Bichagadu 2' is different. This is his most effective performance in years. As a beggar and a billionaire whose net worth runs into one lakh crore, Vijay shows range and depth.
Kavya Thapar looks hot in the cruise song. She has to work on her expressions in serious scenes, though. Dev Gill as an evil guy is routine. Hareesh Peradi is menacing as ever. Dato Radha Ravi, YG Mahendran, Mansoor Ali Khan, and John Vijay fit the bill. Comedian Yogi Babu draws laughs in a scene in the second half.
Technical Departments:
Vijay Antony's background score is compelling. The score elevates a number of scenes, especially when it is in sync with the cuts. His editing is also commendable. S Vijay Rathinam's sound design works best in the Dubai scenes. The technical finesse goes missing in the case of action scenes and the courtroom scene. Om Narayan's cinematography is moody.
The film is produced by Vijay Antony Film Corporation. The budget shows in the scenes where skyscrapers and sophisticated scenes play out.
Hits:
The storyline.
The element of doppelganger has been used more effectively compared to a few other previous films.
The idea of a beggar getting into the body of a billionaire.
Technical departments do a good job.
The earnestness shown by Vijay Antony.
Sister sentiment.
The portrayal of the lives of beggars.
Misses:
The drama surrounding Anti-Bikili is not written smartly.
The courtroom scene in the climax is oversimplified.
The fights lack ambition.
Some pacing and logical issues in the second half.
Vox Verdict:
'Bichagadu 2' is marred by a formulaic second half but the exciting premise keeps the audience thoroughly hooked to the big screen in the first half. The film has merits both on the writing and execution fronts.
Rating: 2.75 \ 5
