On Sunday, the Modi government informed the Allahabad High Court that it had issued notices to Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in connection with their participation in gutka ads in the past. The government's counsel was responding to a contempt petition filed against the actors of 'Pathaan', 'Sooryavanshi' and 'Tanhaji'.
"The petitioner had argued that, despite being recipients of high-profile awards, these actors have been promoting products harmful to public health," a news agency report stated.
The three actors have previously done Vimal Elaichi ads. The product falls under the category of mouth-freshners. This is considered "surrogate advertising" for gutka. For years now, Vimal Elaichi held that the product is 100% tobacco-free.
On the work front, Khan (who was recently seen in the blockbuster 'Jawan') awaits the release of 'Dunki' on December 21. The comedy-drama has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Ajay Devgn will be seen in films like 'Singham Again', 'Maidaan' and 'Shaitaan'. In September this year, producer Boney Kapoor denied that 'Maidaan' was incomplete. Akshay was recently seen in 'Mission Raniganj', before which his 'OMG 2' became a blockbuster at the box office.
