Nitin Gadkari for PM: Opposition's major 'conspiracy' to divide BJP

On June 4, the Indian voter brought down the strength of the BJP from 303 seats in Lok Sabha to 240. The party fell short of the magic figure of 272. At that time, the Opposition was planning to divide the BJP.

As per Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the plan was to offer Prime Ministership to him provided he divided the saffron party into the Modi camp and the anti-Modi camp. "I do not want to name anyone but a person said to me, if you are going to become a Prime Minister, we will support you. I asked him why I should take their support. To become the PM is not my aim at all. I am loyal to my conviction. I am not going to compromise for any post," Gadkari added.

However, sceptics are not interested in taking Gadkari's words at face value. "Gadkari must name the political or political broker who approached him with the offer. Otherwise, his accusations don't carry credibility," a commentator opined.
