With Arvind Kejriwal's scheduled resignation on Tuesday, Atishi Marlena is taking over as the Chief Minister of Delhi. "In their legislative meeting today, Aam Aadmi Party MLAs elected Atishi as their leader, which effectively means she will become the new chief minister of Delhi. Atishi is expected to take the oath of office at around 4:30 pm on September 17, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor," reported IE today. AAP MLAs unanimously accepted Kejriwal's proposal forwarding her name.
Atishi has previously been a Cabinet Minister. She has led the Mohalla Sabha Project successfully for years.
Her ascension has been gradual in the AAP. She is a member of the Political Affairs Committee of the AAP. Currently, Atishi is serving as Minister of Education, PWD, Culture and Tourism in the Delhi Government.
Atishi was born Atishi Singh. Her parents gave her 'Marlena', which is a portmanteau of Marx and Lenin. They are said to be hardcore Communists.
