Taking the Fight Against Deepfakes to Delhi: Megastar Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan Meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah

Stepping beyond digital protests, Indian cinema icon Megastar Chiranjeevi—accompanied by Mega Powerstar Ram Charan—met personally with Honourable Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah in Hyderabad to address an escalating crisis facing the entertainment industry: the rampant, unregulated misuse of Artificial Intelligence and deepfake technology.

The high-level meeting follows Chiranjeevi’s widely discussed public appeal on social media condemning malicious, morphed videos targeting film artists. Representing the collective voice of the Indian film fraternity, the father-son duo sought robust legal interventions to protect the dignity, privacy, and intellectual property rights of artists.

A Constructive Dialogue on Digital Security

During the meeting, Chiranjeevi detailed how sophisticated deepfake algorithms are being weaponized to fabricate explicit or misleading content featuring public figures without consent.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah acknowledged the gravity of the threat. Showing a proactive stance, he assured the Megastar that the central government would examine the legislative gaps urgently and formulate stricter penal frameworks. Furthermore, the Home Minister advised the delegation to submit a detailed written memorandum, entrusting Union Minister Shri G. Kishan Reddy with coordinating the follow-up framework.

Expressing appreciation for the swift and receptive response, Chiranjeevi remarked that the Home Minister’s assurance marks a vital, encouraging milestone toward securing safe digital environments for creative professionals nationwide.
