From Festival Accolades to Box-Office Longevity: Suspense Thriller ‘Mayookha’ Celebrates 25 Days of Theatrical Success
In an era where theatrical runs for independent projects are increasingly difficult to sustain, the gripping suspense thriller ‘Mayookha’ has broken the mold. Starring Payal Chengappa in the lead role, the film is produced by Sasidhar Nalla under the Prashwita Entertainment banner and directed by Shree Tej S.K.
To mark a rare box-office milestone—a solid 25-day theatrical run accompanied by healthy 50% occupancies in its final week—the makers hosted a grand success meet in Hyderabad. Prominent political leader Chinna Srisailam Yadav graced the celebrations as chief guest, alongside industry figures including V5 Managing Director Venkatesh and producer Mahendranath Koundla, to present success shields to the cast and crew.
Director Shree Tej S.K.: “Content-Driven Cinema Wins When Audiences Take Over”
Reflecting on the grueling journey and the unexpected organic traction, director Shree Tej S.K. shared an emotional account of the film's theatrical sustenance:
“I promoted this film while observing Hanuman Deeksha, and His blessings guided us through. Yesterday, on our 25th day, our team visited theatres and witnessed nearly 50% occupancy. When we started, nobody paid attention because it was a small film with newcomers. But true content lovers discovered it and made it a hit. When I first narrated the story to Sasidhar garu, he never questioned the budget or my ability—he simply trusted me. I am glad we lived up to that trust.”
Producer Sasidhar Nalla echoed these sentiments, noting that while massive budgeted tentpoles struggle to hold screens, meticulous planning and a rock-solid script allowed Mayookha to conquer the box office on a controlled budget.
Lead Star Payal Chengappa & Cast Reflections
For lead actress Payal Chengappa, Mayookha marks a dream Telugu cinema debut:
“Most of our team members are newcomers, making this 25-day milestone even more surreal. Before hitting screens, our film won the Best Mystery Movie award at the New York Film Festival, and our director earned international recognition. Knowing that everyday audiences have embraced our little film fills me with immense gratitude.”
Actor Abhilash Adda pointed out that sustaining a 25-day run in today's fast-paced distribution landscape is nothing short of a luxury for small-scale films, while actor Raghu Vasireddy credited the director’s singular vision for the recognition coming their way.
Chief Guest Chinna Srisailam Yadav Assures Government Support
Attending as the chief guest, political leader Chinna Srisailam Yadav lauded the team's grit and assured proactive backing for indie creators:
“Telugu audiences have always embraced content-rich small films. I have known Shree Tej and Sasidhar for a long time, and seeing Mayookha complete 25 days makes me very proud. Moving forward, we will actively work toward ensuring that independent and small-budget films receive robust support from the government.”
