BJP vs INDIA bloc: Bangladesh crisis to impact Indian politics

The ongoing Bangladesh crisis is going to churn its politics forever. The country's political destiny was looking bright under Sheik Hasina. With a coup against her, Bangladesh runs the risk of becoming another Pakistan, commentators say.

Indian political analysts view that the Bangladesh crisis is going to affect Indian politics, especially in West Bengal. The demography of Bengal could undergo substantial change if millions of Hindus and Muslims enter India.

As per BJP leader Suvendhu Adhikari, about one crore Hindus will run away from Bangladesh and enter India. Most of them will live in Bengal. The Modi government could provide them Indian citizenship under the CAA at an accelerated pace after verifying all documents. On the other hand, Muslims who cross into Indian borders won't be eligible for citizenship under the CAA.

All this could result in a greater identity-based politics in the run up to the 2026 Bengal Assembly elections. If Hindus consolidate in favour of the BJP like never before, the TMC could lose power. And a major component of the INDIA bloc will be out of contest in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP and the Congress will work towards consolidating Hindu and Muslim votes, respectively, wherever it is possible. If the demography of Bengal and a few North-Easter States changes, the narrative wars will be pronounced.
