IAS aspirant dies by suicide, commentators blame 'coaching mafia'

An unnamed IAS aspirant from Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar has died by suicide. In her suicide note, she mentioned that she couldn't handle the depression from not being able to crack the Civil Services Examination. In the letter, the deceased person requests the government to take steps to ensure that rents and accommodation costs in Delhi are not exorbitant.

This is one of the rarest instances of an IAS aspirant dying by suicide. Economic commentator Sanjeev Sanyal has called for a public discussion on the "coaching mafia" in Delhi. "The UPSC aspirant industry is like the drug cartel. It is devouring our youth. Do not divert or dilute this issue by turning it into a general discussion on unemployment or the efficiency of the bureaucracy. These are our most talented youth and can find other jobs with ease," he wrote.

Param Mohariya, a Netizen, pointed to the prevalence and dominance of a "mafia of landlords, brokers, hostel/PG owners" in Delhi. "These elements work hand in glove with coaching centers as well as local MLA/police. Many residential areas like Patel Nagar, Rajender Nagar, Mukherjee nagar have been transformed into commercial colonies - thanks to the nexus," he adds.
