The other day, the Kamma Global Federation (KGF) was held in Hyderabad. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy attended the event as the chief guest and showered praises on the Kamma community. Even a sporting icon like Pullela Gopichand was present on the occasion.
But one of the speakers was a total surprise. It's DMK MP Kalanidhi Veeraswamy. The mention of the name would shock you if you are aware of DMK's ideology.
The DMK, which is the current ruling party of Tamil Nadu, believes that Hinduism is bad because it allegedly promotes casteism. Creating a casteless society where Brahminism has no place is the stated ideological belief of the DMK. Of course, it is another matter that many DMK leaders, who otherwise claim to be rational and atheistic, have no problem with minority religions like Islam and Christianity. They promote films that show Hinduism as regressive and superstitious but never criticize other religions. It's about votes and votes alone for them.
In the latest instance, a parliamentarian from the DMK attending the Kamma summit has surprised many. It is said that Revanth Reddy jokingly asked the MP, "You are from Tamil Nadu. You all claim to be casteless. Why are you participating in the Kamma summit?".
