Electoral bonds: Modi's Minister defends Megha Engineering

It is known that Megha Engineering was one of the biggest donors to political parties in the last 5 years. The company donated Rs 966 Cr through Electoral Bonds from 2019 to January this year.

In the past, the Narendra Modi government awarded at least one major infrastructure project to Megha. Amidst allegations of quid pro quo, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari today backed his decision. He also appreciated the company on the floor of Parliament in the past.

"Yes, I praised them. Megha Engineering got the tender of the Zoji-la Tunnel, and I am happy that 70% of the work has been completed. We have saved Rs 6,000 Cr of the country by doing the work of Rs 12,000 Cr in Rs 6,000 Cr," Gadkari today told Times Now.

Meanwhile, a Kaleshwaram project link has also emerged. "The CAG has recently pointed out to large-scale irregularities in the Rs 38,000 Cr Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, saying it was unviable and would bleed Telangana. Megha is the main contractor of the project," wrote journalist Rohini Singh.
