Former CM Yediyurappa accused of sexually harassing a minor

The Bengaluru police today booked senior BJP leader and former Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa under a section of the POCSO Act. A 17-year-old girl has accused him of sexually harassing her.

Reports say that the BJP leader has been booked under Section 8 of POCSO (sexual assault) and Section 354 A (sexual harassment).

The Congress government is admittedly acting with caution. As per Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, “Last night around 10 pm, a lady registered a complaint against BS Yediyurappa. Police have registered the case. Until we know the truth, we can't reveal anything." The lady he is referring to is the girl's mother. As per the woman, the incident happened on February 2.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan has ordered the transfer of the case to the CID with "immediate effect".

For the next few days, the issue will be hotly debated even though Yediyurappa is a veteran politician on the verge of retirement from active politics. His supporters are claiming that the woman in question had made similar allegations previously against many individuals. If true, it will be hard for her to extricate herself if Yediyurappa's legal counsel is strong.
