Electoral Bonds: Top 10 points concerning BJP, YCP, TDP, BRS, Congress

Recently, the Election Commission of India submitted data related to Electoral Bonds to the Supreme Court. For those of you who are not aware of the specific amounts received by different parties, here are easy-to-read highlights.

As per PTI, the prominent news agency, here are the key highlights of the EC data on Electoral Bonds:

1. BJP encashed electoral bonds totalling Rs 6,986.50 Cr. It received Rs 2,555 Cr in 2019-20, the highest by any single party. The Trinamool Congress, which has been ruling West Bengal since 2011, received Rs 1,397 Cr. Mamata Banerjee's party is the second largest recipient after BJP.

2. The Congress party redeemed a total of Rs 1,334.35 Cr through electoral bonds.

3. The BJD, which has ruled Odisha for the past several terms, encashed electoral bonds worth Rs 944.5 Cr.

4. The YSR Congress encashed Rs 442.8 Cr.

5. The TDP encashed Rs 181.35 Cr so far.

6. The BRS is the fourth largest recipient through electoral bonds. It encashed bonds worth Rs 1,322 Cr. The regional party ruled Telangana for ten years before losing power in December 2023.

7. The Samajwadi Party got Rs 14.05 Cr via electoral bonds. The Yogi rule has rendered the Akhilesh Yadav-led party pretty weak.

8. The Akali Dal got Rs 7.26 Cr.

9. The AIADMK got Rs 6.05 Cr. After Jayalalithaa's demise, the party has been weakened.

10. The National Conference earned Rs 50 lakh after its stature got weakened considerably in the Modi era.
