BJP chooses ST Chief Minister to stop conversions: Analysts

On Sunday, national media reports stated that former Union Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has been picked by the BJP high command to lead Chhattisgarh as the new Chief Minister. Vishnu Deo Sai belongs to the Scheduled Tribe community. The choice comes in the wake of election analysts saying that the Hindu tribal consolidation behind the saffron party in this year's Assembly elections in Chhatisgarh was robust.

The Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duo seem to have made the right political move if Hindutva is what is on their mind. Conversions in the tribal-dominated regions of the State have been a major issue. The Sangh Parivar wants religious conversations to be controlled by giving STs political power.

"During the election campaign in Chhattisgarh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah promised voters to ensure the victory of Vishnu Deo Sai from the Kunkuri constituency, saying it will be his responsibility to give Sai a good post. Sai is from the Surguja Division where the BJP won 14 out of 14 seats. Even former Chief Minister Raman Singh was in his favour," a political handle inclined to reveal inside info in the BJP said.
