On Thursday, Viacom 18 bagged the television and digital rights for Indian cricket team's home matches. The rights pertain to the next five years.
As per national media reports, Viacom 18, promoted by Mukesh Ambani, shelled out Rs 5,963 Cr towards the rights. As much as Rs 3,101 Cr was paid for digital rights. The rest (that is, Rs 2,862) was paid for TV rights.
Jay Shah, the BCCI Honorary Secretary, said that the rights are both linear and digital in nature. "India Cricket will continue to grow in both spaces as after IPL and Women's Premier League we extend the partnership BCCI Media Rights as well. Together we will continue to capture the imagination of Indian cricket fans," Shah added.
He also thanked Disney Star and Disney Plus Hotstar for their support over the years. "You played a key role in making India Cricket reach its fans across the globe," Shah further tweeted.
