Modi's masterstroke? 'One Nation, One Election' is happening!

Are we going to witness a historic decision by the Narendra Modi government soon? As per the buzz in media circles, the NDA government is going to introduce a Constitutional Amendment Bill calling for a 'One Nation, One Election' norm. The rumour has taken root after the Centre called for a special Parliament session from September 18 to 22.

Amidst speculations, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath today said that the effort is praiseworthy. He called 'One Nation, One Election' the necessity of the day. "During the process of elections, development works or new policies get hindered. It is required that we conduct Lok Sabha and Assembly and all other elections together," Yogi has been quoted as saying by a news agency.

Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami too welcomed the decision, saying that the Prime Minister has always thought about the development of the country. Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, too, is in favour of the same.

But Opposition parties might not show interest in the proposal if it doesn't suit them. The decision will change the fate of many leaders and some parties might actually go out of existence. Those who fear a loss in the immediate election will staunchly oppose the Bill. But Modi will build the narrative that he is a well-meaning leader whose proposal is stonewalled by Congress and other parties.
