Will Jagan and KCR support Uniform Civil Code?

Will Jagan and KCR support Uniform Civil Code? PM Modi and the Union Government headed by BJP are planning to introduce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill in the upcoming winter session of the Parliament. PM Modi is making deft moves with various Union Ministers meeting all the leaders of the various political parties.

However, many opposition parties are expressing their opposition to the UCC. They fear that it will alienate Muslims and other minorities from their fold. Tamil Nadu CM Stalin already made his opposition clear saying the law can be made only for Hindus if the Union Government proceeds ahead with the bill.

Sharad Pawa's NCP questioned why the Union Government is trying to bring in the bill at this time. Mayawathi's BJP and Congress went on record that BJP is bringing UCC only to divide the society on a religious basis. BJP has a majority in Lok Sabha and it can easily pass the bill. But the problem lies in the Rajya Sabha. 119 members from 237 should support the bill. BJP feels if Jagan's YSRCP supports, then its strength will increase to 112, and with the help of other parties like BJD, etc it can pass the bill.

But YSRCP has the support of the Muslim community and if Jagan supports the bill, it will be detrimental to the party's prospects in the coming elections. PM Modi is planning to raise the issue when Jagan visits Delhi in the coming days. Manny says if Union Government agrees for early polls in AP, Jagan may support the bill.

CM KCR if he supports the bill will be in a precarious position. Telangana has more Muslim population than Andhra Pradesh. Approximately 25 Assembly constituencies in Telangana heavily depend on Muslim voters. If KCR supports UCC, then MIM may part ways with it.
