There was an assassination attempt on the former US President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. As per early reports, the assailant is a 20-year-old man named Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by security officials on the spot.
Crooks reportedly graduated from Bethel Park High School in 2022. Footage of him accepting his diploma at commencement has surfaced online. "Crooks received the National Math and Science Initiative Star Award for academic achievement," wrote an investigative journalist.
After the firing, Trump pumped his fist in the air as the Secret Service escorted him off stage. Commentators are of the view that this image will define the Presidential campaign for the rest of the year.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised over the shocking security lapse. "How did the shooter even get on the roof? I have been at several events for Trump and there is no way you can get anything going that close to him. I measured it on OnX 150.1 yards. This is complete negligence and incompetence or it was intentional," wrote a Ranger with half a million followers on X.
