Viral Twitter post shames young Engineers with sky-high expectations

A post on the social media platform X about the sky-high expectations of young Indian job seekers, especially in cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru, has so far garnered nearly six lakh views in just 24 hours. The post by Ratnakar Sadasyula, a techie, says that most of the young candidates his firm interviews are from ordinary engineering colleges with not even half-decent abilities. Despite possessing no proper technical knowledge or communication skills, they demand abnormally high salaries. "The 2020-21 startup boom has spoilt a large section of youth. Because of this, young candidates are expecting exorbitant salaries irrespective of their skill set or ability," he laments.

Agreeing with him are scores of others face a similar experience with Engineers and others. "This is the same situation in graphic designing. In the graphic field, they are dismal on the skill front. Not one candidate has a designing knowledge but demands super-high salaries," a Netizen wrote.

Entrepreneur Narayanai Gurunathan says, "The story of every organization which is hiring today is the same. Three years of experience and demanding Rs 30 LPA without knowing their ability or worth. Add the three-month notice period and it's a nightmare. The icing on the cake is the 'Didi- Bhaiya' influencers who encourage the young talent to demand eight to ten times their current package."

Things took this turn only in recent years. "The ‘corona batch’ freshers have earned a bad name across the tech industry. Barring a minuscule number of people, a majority think they are entitled to 6-figure take-home pay while giving zero returns on investment," adds Kuruvi Vedi.
