Railways Minister makes a key statement about Balasore train accident

Several theories have been put forward by different players ever since the Balasore train accident took place the other day. Most of them are speculative in nature.

The government has finally given an official word as to what caused the colossal tragedy. As per Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the commissioner of railway safety has arrived at the conclusion that the accident happened due to a change in electronic interlocking.

As per the Minister, the accident didn't take place due to the failure of the Kavach system, which is meant to prevent head-on collisions.

Meanwhile, as per a report brought out by The Print, the Railway Board's pro-activeness would have prevented the tragedy. "The Board had been warned about serious flaws in the system concerning interlocking in February and sought immediate action. Presentations on railway safety were skipped at Railway Minister's Chintan Shivir," the report added.

Concerns of signal failure of an express train were raised but they were not taken seriously, the report added.

But the media report might not find official backing if the new theory propagated by the government is anything to go by. "The Balasore rail accident wasn’t because of a head-on collision but a result of the Coromandel Express, unfortunately, getting derailed. The cause of it is being investigated," wrote Amit Malviya of the BJP.
