Movie Review: HER- Only for a few thrills

The much-anticipated investigative thriller, HER Chapter 1, graces the silver screens. The film features Ruhani Sharma in the lead role. Directed by the renowned filmmaker, Sreedhar Swaraghav, the film promises to be a gripping tale that unfolds near the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Plot

The police in Hyderabad discover the lifeless bodies of Vishal Pasupuleti and Swathi, setting the stage for an enthralling investigation led by the determined Archana Prasad (Ruhani Sharma). Fresh from a six-month suspension, Archana takes on the responsibility of cracking the case. Adding to the intrigue, the weapon used in the murders holds a personal connection with Archana, making the mystery all the more enigmatic.

Performances

Ruhani Sharma's powerful portrayal in an author-backed role is truly commendable, as she brings her character to life with flawless looks, body language, and expressions. HER showcases Ruhani's undeniable versatility, proving her ability to master any role she undertakes. The film also boasts Jeevan's impeccable comedic timing, evoking laughter in various scenes. Notably, a humorous track featuring Jeevan and Chitram Seenu hits the mark, injecting humor into the narrative. The performances of Sanjay Swaroop, Pradeep Rudra, Vinod Varma, and Ravi Varma are worth noting, adding substance to the film.

Technicalities

While Pavan's background score and Vishnu Besi's cinematography add a decent touch to the movie, Sreedhar Swaraghav's direction fails to infuse the required spark into the investigative thriller. The investigation sequences are predictable, and the film lacks the captivating allure that such a genre demands. The second half of the film offers engaging moments, drawing the audience deeper into the storyline.

What works

With a well-designed interval block that ignites curiosity, the movie runs for a crisp 100 minutes with seamless editing.

The thrills related to the murders have been brought into the narrative quite well. The second half has some redeeming portions, they ultimately leave the viewer wanting more.

The revelation behind the murders disappoints looks good and has been showcased in a good way.

The romantic track between Ruhani and Vikas Vashista is also showcased in a decent manner.

What Doesn't

HER falls short of delivering anything groundbreaking in the investigative thriller genre. The storyline lacks the thrilling elements crucial for a gripping crime thriller, while the investigative segments seem predictable and mundane.

Moreover, the manner of revelation falls short of expectations, leaving the emotional depth of the film unsatisfying.

The antagonist's character also remains largely undeveloped, diminishing the film's suspense and excitement.

Vox Verdict

In conclusion, HER Chapter 1 offers moments of intrigue and interest but ultimately falls short of being an exceptional investigative thriller. Despite Ruhani Sharma's impressive performance, the film lacks the necessary emotional depth and novelty that could have made it stand out.
