On Sunday, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) authorities demolished multiple "unauthorized structures" in the FTL and buffer zones of Nalla Cheruvu at Kukatpally and Kokapet.
The development has caught many residents unaware. The affected residents who were on the losing end alleged that the authorities started the demolition exercise without a warning. "We were not allowed to secure our belongings in peace," a woman told a YouTube channel.
A middle-aged businessman, who runs a small hotel in Kukatpally, said that he had invested lakhs of rupees only a few months ago. "Everything has gone down the drain," he added. A resident, who bought a property for Rs 1 crore in the locality, asked, "Will the government punish those responsible for giving permissions which are deemed illegal?"
As per a Deccan Chronicle report, more than 50 unauthorized structures have been built on 4 acres of the buffer zone of Nalla Cheruvu. "In 3 acres of FTL, 25 buildings and 16 sheds have been constructed. HYDRAA is demolishing the 16 sheds, excluding the occupied buildings," the report added.
