Governments often hesitate to make even small decisions that are suitable for the changing times and needs of the people. However, Telangana State Chief Minister KCR has a different attitude and once he decides to focus on something, he can bring about significant changes by overturning old laws.
Recently, a key decision was made in Telangana to allow shops to remain open 24 hours across the state by changing the law, with an additional fee of Rs. 10,000 and adherence to some appropriate rules. According to the guidelines issued by the Commissioner of Labor Department, employees working in 24-hour businesses must be issued ID cards, given weekend leave, have fixed working hours and receive extra salary for overtime, festivals, and holidays.
Adequate compensation and transport must be provided for female employees working night shifts and voluntary consent must be obtained. Records must be maintained properly and the provisions of the Police Act should be followed. Implementing these new rules across Telangana will help take Hyderabad metropolis in a new direction.
One flip side will be law and order because there may be robbery attempts more in the night if shops open in isolated areas and thereby aggressive policing is required. However, on the positive side it will bring amazing benefits to businesses and provide scope for more employment opportunities. Even customers will get benefitted as they can shop leisurely in the late hours whenever it's convenient and there's no traffic.
