Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar are key to the survival of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. There is the buzz that Naidu wants at least three important portfolios for his party.
The BJP doesn't want to compromise on a few Ministries: Home, Finance, Defence and Ministry of External Affairs are the ones that will obviously not go to the allies. The BJP will retain them.
Besides, Railways and Law won't be ceded to any of the allies.
If one is optimistic, AP CM-designate Naidu won't create troubles over the allocation of portfolios. He needs the Centre's assistance and funds to build a capital city. If his administration fails at the job, anti-incumbnecy will take root sooner than later.
Modi will have to make some tough calls even at the cost of temporarily angering Naidu. His government needs efficient Ministers to see through some important reforms in this term. Nitin Gadkari is known for his efficiency but his Ministry might be wanted by either TDP or the JDU. In this context, Modi is said to have clearly conveyed to Naidu that some items are non-negotiable.
