Punish those who don't vote: Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal

Mumbai is going to the polls today. After casting his vote, Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal spoke to the media and offered his advice to the future governments. He said that those who don't participate in voting must be made to pay through taxes or some other punishment.

"There should be some provisions for those who don't vote, like an increase in tax or some other punishment," he has been quoted as saying by Netizens.

Netizens are in disagreement with Paresh Rawal. "Many people ruin their intellect by entering politics. It’s simple: democracy means people choose to vote or not. Only a low-IQ clown would advocate for penalizing non-voters with increased taxes," wrote Danny on X. "Punishing the non-voting population would be democratic in nature. If someone is not voting, that’s completely his/her choice and has to accept whichever government is formed. Moreover, being a billionaire you shouldn’t speak about tax," wrote Saradsree Ghosh.

A few Netizens, however, agreed with the actor. "Just the other day a bunch of friends were discussing this topic. This needs to be done ASAP! As citizens we have just one basic duty, if you don't do that then you do not deserve the benefits of this beautiful country and its democracy," wrote Viren.
