Congress will distribute Hindu wealth to Muslims: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a rally in Rajasthan's Banswara. On the occasion, he blasted the Congress party over its promise to conduct a financial survey if voted to power.

Modi said that the Opposition party is trapped in the grip of "the Leftists and Urban Naxals". "What Congress has said in its manifesto is serious and worrying. They have said that if they form a government then a survey of property belonging to every person will be done," Modi said.

He went on to say that the gold and jewelry owned by people will be taken away by the Congress government in the name of wealth redistribution.

In the end, he added that the Congress believes that Muslims have the first right to the nation's resources. In his early days as the PM of India, Manmohan Singh made this precise comment at a summit. At that time, Singh's remarks sparked a major row.

Modi today went on to say that the Congress party's agenda is to grab the wealth of Hindus and re-distribute it among those who procreate more children than Hindus. It was a not-so-indirect reference to the Muslim community.

The speech has been described by many as deeply communal and polarizing. It has to be seen how the Opposition will counter the PM.
