'Anatomy of a Fall', the 2023 French legal drama film directed by Justine Triet from a screenplay she co-wrote with Arthur Harari, has won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar. It had received nominations in four other categories: Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Editing.
The film had won awards in the category at the British Academy Film Awards, the Golden Globes, and the French César Awards prior. Cinephiles are talking about the merits of the film's screenplay. "The Oscar win was actually on the expected lines. The legal drama so completely deserved the Oscar," a fan said.
Upon its release, Scroll reviewed the film saying, "The screenplay, which demands ambiguity and a sense of enigma, is sometimes at odds with Triet’s typically unvarnished style of filmmaking."
Deadline’s review had only superlative praises for the film, which was described as “a cerebral smash” and “a ferociously intelligent and deceptively playful drama that uses genre as a Trojan horse through which to tell the story of a normal family’s sudden implosion.”
There were rumours that an Indian adaptation of the film would be made by a Bollywood director. But the same turned out to be false.
