My charity works are not for political gain: Vishal

Amidst rumours that he is launching a political party, actor Vishal today made it clear that he is not doing so. The 'Abhimanyudu' and 'Pandem Kodi' actor made it clear that he has always done philanthropic work without expecting political benefits.

In a social media note today, Vishal began by saying that he is forever indebted to the people of Tamil Nadu who gave him "status, recognition and adulation". The actor described himself as a social worker. Vishal went on to write, "Aiming to help the needy with what I can, from the very beginning, I didn’t treat my fans' associations as conventional fan clubs but as a collective forum to do good to the people. So, we turned it into a charitable welfare movement."

He added that an outfit named Makkal Nala Iyakkam was formed to work for the welfare of the people district-wise, zone-wise and branch-wise. Devi Foundation was founded in Vishal's mother’s name. "We are helping many skillful yet needy students every year in the name of our late former president Sir APJ Abdul Kalam to help them pursue their educational needs," he added.

"I have never done the welfare works for the needy expecting no political gain. I will continue to do my best to help them," he added.

Vishal awaits the release of 'Rathnam' this April 26.
