Recently, hundreds of crores were recovered from Congress Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand, Dhiraj Prasad Sahu. The largest haul by the Income-Tax Department is believed to have made the Congress party poorer and left it in the lurch. The party is in desperate need of funds.
On Saturday, the Congress party announced the launch of an online and on-ground crowdfunding campaign named 'Donate for Desh'. "Two channels have been created for this online crowdfunding: 1. Our dedicated online portal: http://donateinc.in. 2. The official Indian National Congress website: http://inc.in," the party said in a statement.
The Rahul Gandhi 'sena' said that the campaign will primarily be online until December 28, after which the party cadres will initiate ground campaigns, including door-to-door visits by volunteers. The aim is to target at least ten houses in every booth for contributions of at least Rs 138 from each house.
As per speculations, the crowdfunding campaign is the result of the IT department taking over hundreds of crores from Sahu, who is alleged to have amassed the money to fund Congress candidates across the country in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
But is the campaign enough? "Come out of the NGO mindset. Make it commercial and professional. Draw up an incentive structure for the best performer in this campaign among party functionaries. Not just good performers be rewarded, bad performers be tested further," wrote a well-wisher of the party.
