The Lok Sabha was today adjourned after two persons entered the Parliament from the visitors' gallery and opened gas canisters. Reports said that an unidentified man jumped from the visitors' gallery causing a slight commotion.
The incident has come as a shocker. "Stunning intelligence and security failure at New Parliament. The visitor's pass of the intruder in the name of 'Sagar Sharma' was issued by BJP Mysuru MP Pratap Simha," reported India Today.
The incident happened on the anniversary of the Parliament attack of 2001. "As per preliminary investigation, the smoke was ordinary smoke. Nothing to worry about," reported Bar & Bench.
The Narendra Modi government is expected to face massive criticism over the mind-boggling breach. If it is true that a BJP MP issued the visitor's pass, the lack of due diligence on his part might affect the party's credentials to an extent, at least in the short run.
The MP who caught the unidentified person belongs to the Congress party. Already, a number of Congress party functionaries are boasting about it and shaming the BJP.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Malliakrjun Kharge, requested that the house be adjourned. "Let the Home Minister come and give more details," he said.
In response, the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, Piyush Goyal, said, "We should give a message that this country's strength is above all this. House proceedings should continue. I think Congress is politicizing it and this is not a good message for the country."
