First-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma is Rajasthan Chief Minister

On Tuesday, the High Command of the BJP named the first-time MLA Bhajanlal Sharma as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The Narendra Modi-Amit Shah duo, after consultations with various MLAs, also appointed two Deputy CMs. Diya Kumari and Prem Chand Bairwa are their names. Kumari was billed to become the CM. She hails from an erstwhile royal family from Jaipur.

With this, the end of Vasundhara Raje's political career has become a reality. The Modi-Shah duo have never been fond of Raje, who rose to the CM-ship in the Vajpayee-Advani era.

MLA Yogi Balak Nath was said to be in the running for the top post. Speaking to the media today, he expressed the hope that the new CM and his two deputies will take Rajasthan forward.

Analysts are of the view that the BJP is playing the caste card the right way to keep its Brahmin vote base intact. It has already made Brahmin leaders Deputy CMs in Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh. And now, a Brahmin has been made the CM of Rajasthan.

One of the Deputy CMs of Rajasthan is a Dalit. C'garh has an ST CM, while MP has an OBC CM.
