BJP planning to dislodge Congress government: Former CM

Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has made sensational remarks by indicating that the days of the Congress government in Karnataka are numbered. He alleged that a powerful Congress heavyweight is planning to jump ship with the support of about 60 MLAs. This could happen anytime, he added.

"A Congress minister may join the BJP with the support of 50-60 Congress MLAs. The Karnataka government might fall soon. Anything can happen. No one has any honesty and loyalty left in them," the JD(S) leader said.

If true, this is quite shocking. The Congress party came to power in May this year with a thumping majority. The BJP would ideally do well to sit in the Opposition till the next elections. Otherwise, it might even incur the wrath of a section of the voters if there is no anti-incumbency on the ground level.

There is a theory that HDK's utterances are calculated to cause confusion in political circles ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The idea is to create the impression that Congress is a weak party that can't sustain the people's mandate. JD(S) has been planning to contest polls in alliance with the BJP in 2024.
