The Mumbai Police on Wednesday reportedly received a threat ahead of the first semi-final match in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. The big-ticket match is between India and New Zealand scheduled at Wankhede Stadium.
"An unidentified person posted a threat message to Mumbai Police on Twitter that a nefarious incident would be executed during the India vs New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium today. Strict vigilance is being done in the area around the stadium and nearby areas. The person had tagged Mumbai Police on his post and shown gun, hand grenades and bullets in a photo," the cops have been quoted as saying by ANI.
It must be noted that the security situation has been slightly affected in recent weeks in the wake of the Israel-Palestine war. That said, today's threat is most likely an empty one by an element who will be nabbed by the Indian intelligence and security forces in due course of time.
In the past, prestigious sports events have received similar threats.
