Owaisi, other Opposition MPs fear government is tapping their phones!

On Tuesday, some Opposition leaders such as Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM, Mahua Moitra of Trinamool Congress, Priyanka Chaturvedi of Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Pawan Khera claimed that they have received warnings from their phone manufacturer (read iPhone) about possible "state-sponsored attackers trying to compromise" their instruments. In other words, they fear that it was a case of hacking by the Narendra Modi government ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Even some journalists, including a couple of them from Hyderabad, also received the warning from iPhone.

Following an outrage and accusations of the Modi government trying to infringe on the privacy of Opposition leaders, Apple today issued a statement.

In the statement, Apple made it clear that it does not attribute the "threat notifications to any specific state-sponsored attacker", suggesting that it is not possible to detect the activities of the "well-funded and sophisticated" state-sponsored attackers with perfection. "It’s possible that some Apple threat notifications may be false alarms, or that some attacks are not detected. We are unable to provide information about what causes us to issue threat notifications, as that may help state-sponsored attackers adapt their behavior to evade detection in the future," Apple further said.
