As per some prominent social media handles, Tuesday's World Cup cricket match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka witnessed unusual support for the Pak team. The match was held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
As per Megh Updates, a Twitter handle with more than three lakh followers, the crowds from Hyderabad thoroughly cheered Team Pakistan. "Pakistan anchors have since thanked ICC and BCCI for keeping some Pak matches in Muslim-dominated places," the handle said.
After Rizwan scored a century, Hindustan Times used this line to report the mood in the stadium: "Hyderabad stands up to applaud and cheer for him."
"No visa is given to Pakistani fans but Pakistan is feeling home in Hyderabad, thousands of people are raising pro Pakistan slogans," wrote Mr. Sinha, who enjoys a following of about 1.24 lakh on Twitter.
While some handles on social media have tried to project the cheering crowds in a negative light, others argue that sportsmen deserve support cutting across boundaries. "Several social media users are spreading Islamophobic agenda by using alleged visuals from yesterday's match," a commentator said.
