Iraq wedding fire: Will Tollywood fans wake up at least now?

The other day, a fire engulfed an overcrowded wedding hall in a northern Iraqi town. The tragedy resulted in a death toll of more than 100. Firecrackers were used by the participants, causing the unimaginative accident. "The bride and the groom survived but they lost everyone they loved. The bride lost all her family, the groom lost his mother! Please avoid indoor fireworks and extra risky activities during events," a viral social media post says.

Using fireworks inside a closed auditorium is a recipe for disaster. During the re-release of Telugu movies like 'Kushi' and 'Samara Simha Reddy' in recent months, the fans of Telugu superstars dangerously used crackers while the show was on. Despite warnings by theatre managements, the over-zealous fans use crackers inside cinema halls to announce their love for their favourite star.

The level of human tragedy such reckless festivities can wreak are unimaginable. The Iraq wedding fire must serve as a wake-up call to all fans. Otherwise, they would be welcoming a potential tragedy. Theatre managements must make the strictest possible security arrangements in place to prevent crackers from being smuggled into the hall.
