India's name to be changed by Modi government: Reports

On Tuesday, national media reports speculated that the Modi government is going to introduce a new Bill in the Parliament in the upcoming special session on September 18. The Bill will attempt to amend the Constitution of India to change the name of the country from India to Bharat.

At this point in time, this is merely speculative in nature. For the past few days, two other speculations have been made: the introduction of a 'One nation, one election' Bill, and the introduction of a Women's Reservation Bill. The name change speculation is the third one to come about.

The name change buzz has gained more traction because of a tweet by a BJP CM. "REPUBLIC OF BHARAT - happy and proud that our civilization is marching ahead boldly towards AMRIT KAAL," tweeted Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam.

It has to be seen if any of the three speculations will come true or not. The Modi government is looking at changing the narrative ahead of the Assembly elections in November-December. Politically speaking, inflation and a few other themes are hurting the BJP.
