The DMK is a partner of the Congress party in the INDIA alliance. DMK supremo MK Stalin's son Udayanidhi Stalin has made perverse anti-Hinduism remarks by saying that the spread of Sanatana Dharma must be curbed and the religion eliminated like Malaria.
The DMK is not a fringe political outfit. It is the largest Tamil party, bigger than AIADMK. It has ruled Tamil Nadu for decades. It can potentially sweep 35 Lok Sabha seats with its allies. Its leaders have previously been Union Ministers. Given this, Udayanidhi brazenly making anti-Hinduism remarks has become a major political talking point.
The same might come to haunt the Congress party, whose leader Rahul Gandhi is accused by BJP sympathizers as a Hindu-hater. For years, WhatsApp and social media platforms like Facebook have projected Rahul and his mother, Sonia Gandhi, as Christians who dislike Hindu culture.
The BJP will now try its best to project DMK and Congress as ideological siblings. This will further damage the electoral prospects of Congress in northern India, where Hindutva politics are very strong.
The DMK tries to hoodwink people by saying that it is anti-Brahminism but not anti-Hinduism. Congress can't tell this lie to people because it depends on Brahmin votes in several States.
