Chandrayaan-3’s moon lander's landing spot gets a name

It was today announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the spot where Chandrayaan-3’s moon lander landed earlier this week will be called the 'Shivshakti Point'. The announcement has been welcomed by people from different walks of life.

Addressing ISRO's scientists today in Bengaluru, Modi said that he had been waiting to meet and salute the scientists personally. "This is not an ordinary achievement. The strength of India's scientific prowess has been proved in the space. This salute is to your determination, commitment and unflinching hard work," he added. "India is on the moon," the PM said.

As he spoke the words, the PM turned emotional.

The spot where Chandrayaan-2 landed has been named Tiranga. The post where Chandrayaan-1 landed was named Jawahar Point by the UPA government.

By choosing a name drawn from Hinduism, the PM has signaled that his government is committed to lending spiritual aura to scientific missions. The name is sure to make agnostics and the liberal media complain. However, the BJP is going to defend the choice, considering that 'Shivshakti Point' is sure to find popular approval.
