No respite for Rahul Gandhi in the court

No respite for Rahul Gandhi in the court. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi did not get any respite in the court today. It is known that Rahul Gandhi was disqualified as the MP from Wayanad, Kerala after a magistrate court in Surat convicted him on March 23 for his remark "all thieves have Modi surname" which he had made at an election rally in Karnataka's Kolar constituency, in 2019.

Congress party accused the Union Government headed by PM Modi and the BJP of witch hunting. Rahul Gandhi approached the Gujarat High Court after a sessions court in Surat dismissed his plea on April 20, seeking suspension of his conviction by the Magistrate court.

It is known that Rahul Gandhi during an election rally said "Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi, Narendra Modi. How come all the thieves have 'Modi' as a common surname?" Former BJP MLA Purnesh Modi took a strong exception and approached the court saying that Rahul Gandhi hurt and insulted people having the Modi surname.

Single-judge Justice Hemant Prachchhak refused to stay Rahul Gandhi's conviction coming out with the following statement. He said "At least 10 criminal cases pending against him. Even after the present case, some more cases filed against him. Representatives of people should remain of clear character. One such is filed by the grandson of Veer Savarkar in a court in Pune as the accused used defamation (sic) terms against Veer Savarkar in Cambridge. In another case, complaints were also filed in a court in Lucknow,"

The court also held "In any way, a conviction would not result in any injustice to the applicant. The conviction order is just, proper and legal. There is no need to interfere with the said order. Therefore, the application is dismissed,"
