Social media has become a part and parcel of political campaigning for long. It is said that the 2024 General Elections are going to witness a mega outreach campaign by the BJP and Congress through social media.
In this regard, social media influencers with lakhs/millions of followers/subscribers are going to be wooed by the two prominent parties. Recently, some popular YouTube channels hosted BJP Union Ministers in partnership with MyGov. The Central Ministers were interviewed by these influencers, who were apparently paid lakhs of rupees for the same.
Although the Congress party criticized the NDA government by accusing it of paying social media influencers from the state exchequer, the Grand Old Party itself is making precise moves to woo social media influencers.
In Rajasthan, as per news reports, SM influencers will be paid up to Rs 5 lakh if they share government Ads on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and/or YouTube. Rajasthan's Assembly elections will be held in November-December this year. The Congress party is upping the social media game there with the aim of reaching out to young voters.
The aforementioned instances are just two examples of how political parties are going to spend crores of rupees in buying space on social media by collaborating with influencers. Several regional parties have already been doing it aggressively.
