YSRCP chief and former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed deep anguish over the brutal incident in Badvel, where a college student was raped and then set on fire by her attacker. Outraged, Jagan questioned the state of law and order under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, stating, "What kind of governance is this, Chandrababu?"
The horrific incident has sparked outrage across the state, with Jagan condemning the continuous rise of criminal activities under the coalition government. He took to social media platform X to criticize the government, stating that the law and order situation had completely collapsed, leading to such heinous acts.
Jagan's comments on X were as follows:
"They are unable to maintain law and order… What kind of governance is this, Mr. Chandrababu? They can’t even provide safety to women and girls… What kind of state is this? Every day, somewhere, there are rapes, murders, and harassment. The incident in Badvel, where a college student was set on fire after being doused with petrol, is extremely despicable and evil. My deepest condolences to the family. The failure of the state government and the police system is evident here. A leader should give people courage, but instead, the state has been driven to a point where people live in constant fear.
Mr. Chandrababu, due to your grudge against YSRCP, you are sabotaging our schemes and programs, punishing the state and its people. Isn't this unfair? The revolutionary 'Disha' program we introduced during the YSRCP government, which guaranteed safety for girls and women, was deliberately weakened by your administration. Isn’t it clear that this act has compromised the safety of women and girls? Through the Disha app, an SOS alert was designed to send immediate help to nearby police by either pressing the SOS button or shaking the phone five times. The police would contact them immediately and rush to the scene. But didn’t you deliberately undermine this robust system? Since the launch of Disha, 31,607 women and girls have been saved, so why did you weaken it? Why this political vendetta against 'Disha,' which 1.56 crore people have downloaded and trusted?
To strengthen the Disha initiative, we set up 13 POCSO courts, 12 women's courts, forensic labs, and appointed public prosecutors in every district. We provided 900 bikes and 163 Bolero vehicles to the police for patrolling under Disha. We established 18 Disha police stations and crime management vehicles, linking them all to the police command control room. During our tenure, we prioritized the 'Disha' program in our reviews of law and order, ensuring that police were always on alert.
By dismantling these efforts, what do you hope to achieve, Mr. Chandrababu? Your actions are only undoing programs and schemes that were designed for the safety and empowerment of women, while now engaging in scams like sand and liquor, and running gambling clubs. Meanwhile, the police system is bending to the ruling party’s wishes, filing false cases against the opposition rather than focusing on protecting women, girls, and children. What kind of governance is this, Mr. Chandrababu?” tweeted YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
