In a tweet about 2024 Haryana election results, Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed his concern over the growing disconnect between election results and public understanding. He illustrated the parallelism between the pending election-related cases in the courts and the results from Haryana and Andhra Pradesh.

He emphasized that it is not sufficient for the system to merely exist in a democracy; it should be seen as evolving. Jagan argued that the only way to ensure the true spirit of democracy is to return to the traditional paper ballot system. Citing examples from major developed countries like the USA, UK, and Canada, which rely on paper ballots, he urged Indian lawmakers to consider this change. According to him, adopting paper ballots would restore and enhance public trust in the electoral process, thereby strengthening democracy at its core.

The Chief Minister's call comes amid growing discussions on electoral transparency and legitimacy, underscoring the need for reforms to protect voter confidence."
