Bharat Jodo Yatra was inspired by YSR: Rahul Gandhi

"My humble tributes to former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Rajasekhara Reddy ji, on his 75th birth anniversary," wrote Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday, paying a rich tribute to the late statesman on his Jayanti.

In a video clip he put out, the PM aspirant acknowledged YSR's novel manner of connecting with the masses through his iconic Pada Yatra in the run-up to the 2004 Assembly and General Elections. Under his leadership, the Congress became extremely strong in then-united Andhra Pradesh, paving the way for it to come to power at the Centre.

"A true leader of the masses, his grit, dedication, and commitment to the upliftment and empowerment of the people of Andhra Pradesh and India has been a guiding light to many of us. I personally learned a lot from him. He shall always remain an exemplar of excellence in public life," RaGa said.

RaGa also said that he incorporated some of the elements of the Pada Yatra undertaken by YSR in his BJY, the mass movement that he undertook from September 7, 2022 to January 30, 2023 for 136 days.
