YS Jagan Mohan Reddy makes a big statement on EVMs

At a time when the credibility of the Electronic Voting Machines has been called into question by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several other Opposition leaders, Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday joined the chorus. He said that it was time to return to paper ballots.

"Just as justice should not only be served, but should also appear to have been served, so should democracy not only prevail but must appear to be prevalent undoubtedly," the former AP CM opined.

He added that advanced democracies use paper ballots and not EVMs. "In electoral practices across the world in almost every advanced democracy, paper ballots are used, not EVMs. We too must move towards the same in upholding the true spirit of our democracy," the YSRCP chief added.

It has to be seen how the TDP, Jana Sena and AP unit of the BJP are going to respond to Jagan's anti-EVM stance. In the past, a section of the TDP leaders, after losing power in 2019, raised suspicions.
