In response to lapses in enforcing the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) within the Nandyal constituency, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take action against several key officials. The ECI's directive that was released on May 12, 2024 targets Nandyal Superintendent of Police (SP) Raghuveer Reddy, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Ravindranth Reddy, and Circle Inspector (CI) Raja Reddy, prompting a departmental investigation.
The move comes after the EC flagged concerns over the unauthorized rally held by Tollywood actor Allu Arjun in Nandyal, without prior permission. Despite the enforcement of Section 144 in the constituency, the EC noted a failure on the part of the police officials to effectively manage the situation, prompting further scrutiny into the matter.
