The main opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam Party and Jana Sena managed to secure hefty funds through electoral bonds. This reveals the high potential for the quid pro quo deals that the parties might be indulging in.
According to the data provided by the State Bank of India to the Supreme Court on Thursday, March 21, 2024, the TDP got about Rs.80 crores from the period of April 2019 to September 2023. And, it managed to secure even more from October 2023, as it got 130 crores as donations through the electoral bonds. This also indicates that the TDP got more than fifty percent of its donations just before this election season.
Some of the top donors for the TDP include 40 crores from Shirdi Sai Electronics, 28 crores from Megha Engineering among others.
Meanwhile, the Jana Sena also accepted donations through electoral bonds and remains as the only unrecognised party to receive donations. It managed to gain around Rs.21 crore through the bonds.
