Vizag girl Jyothi creates history, CM Jagan congratulates. Vizag girl Jyothi Yarraji created history by winning gold at 100m Hurdle Race at the Asian Athlete Championships that are going on in Bangkok, Thailand. Jyothi who entered the race as the favorite after becoming the Asia's fastest woman early this year, lived up to her top billing by winning the gold medal clocking 13.09 seconds.

In the process, she overcame all odds and the tough wet and slick conditions brought on by heavy rain.Masumi Aoki (13.26s) and Asuka Terada (13.13s) won the silver and bronze medals.Entire nation erupted with joy when Jyothi crossed the finish line. Jyothi was the quickest in the heats as well, winning Heat 1 with a timing of 12.98s and moving on to the championship round. She almost missed breaking the meet mark, which is 12.97 seconds. Jyothi edged off her Japanese rivals in a photo finish, becoming the first Indian woman in history to complete this course in less than 13 seconds.

A true inspiration and a shining example of dedication and perseverance. Congratulations, Jyothi! "

Jems K. Hillar, a former Olympian, Jyothi's coach said "In nine months, Jyothi has broken her own nine records. She has the P.T. Usha potential in her." Her mentor Narayana Rao who is the selection committee chairman of AP State Athletics Association., said "Jyothi’s journey has been very tough. She joined Nagarjuna University’s Excellency Centre, where she got a foreign coach. When the center closed, she went to Bhubaneswar. She survived on charity during her coaching period."
