CM Jagan flexes muscles: Demands special status. Opposition parties long have been targeting CM Jagan and the ruling YSRCP for forgetting the special status issue which happens to be one of its poll promises. It is known that Jagan promised to fight for special status with the center.
He also many times told that as BJP and PM Modi has a full majority at the center, it is difficult to demand special status. However, TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu and Jana Sena head Pawan Kalyan kept on targeting Jagan for forgetting the special status. Now, on his Delhi trip, CM Jagan flexed his muscles during his meeting with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
He reiterated his demand for special status to AP. He also sought funds to the completion of the Polavaram project. Though rumors spread that Jagan would be seeking early polls for AP, YSRCP rubbished them and said they will go to polls only after the completion of the full term.
Jagan met Amit Shah at 3.30 PM and release central funds as soon as possible. His meeting with Amit Shah lasted for 20 minutes. He then met PM Modi and both held discussions for more than 1hr 20 minutes. urged him to expedite decisions on several issues including those related to state bifurcation. Apart from seeking funds for the construction of new medical colleges, completing the Polavaram project, and correcting the loopholes in the implementation of the National Food Security Act, the Chief Minister also urged the PM to fulfill the promises given to Andhra Pradesh during the 2014 bifurcation. He told PM Modi "Unless the funds for R & R package are released, the first phase would remain incomplete,"
He also highlighted the need to implement the promise of Special Status to the state as it would help in faster industrial development and provide employment opportunities to the state’s youths.
