The American Telugu Association (ATA), one of the largest national Telugu associations in the US, kicked off its biennial convention on June 7 with a banquet at the Georgia World Trade Center in Atlanta. On this occasion, the ATA presented awards to individuals who have demonstrated talent in various fields.
T. Ramachandra Reddy received an award for his contributions to community service. The award was presented by Telangana State Minister Komatireddy Venkatareddy.
Dr. Satish was recognized for his service in medicine, Dr. Muralidhar for science and technology, Ambika Ananth for literature, Pawan Yarramshetty for innovative business leadership, Dr. Satya Koonapuli for youth achievement, Vittal for arts, Shwetha Thirupuramallu for arts, and Hemachandra for his talent in youth and sports. Awards were also presented to Rambha and others. Donors were acknowledged as well.
ATA President Madhu Bommineni thanked the ATA's sponsors and donors. She spoke of the awards given away and cultural activities conducted over two days. Vijay Deverakonda, Neha Shetty and many others are associated with the event.
Telangana Minister Komatireddy Venkatareddy said, "The atmosphere is festive here. Thousands of Telugus live in Atlanta. I am not a politician. I am a leader. I have always wanted to do only developmental works and charity. I have been elected six times to the state legislature. In the coming years, you are going to witness real development in Hyderabad."
Telangana Minister Sridhar Babu, actor Srikanth, director Tammareddy Bharadwaja, and others participated in the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Tollywood actor Srikanth said, "I am very happy to be here. This is my first ATA event in Atlanta. The hospitality is great. Seeing so many Telugus here, I feel like I am very much in Hyderabad. It is worthy of appreciation that these people continue to practice Telugu culture and tradition."
Cultural programs performed during the event entertained the audience. Tollywood composer Anup Rubens concluded the ceremony with a performance that impressed music lovers. ATA President Madhu Bommineni, President-Elect Jayant Challa, Convener Kiran Pasam, and other members participated in the ceremony.
