In a significant milestone, Jaya Badiga, a Telugu woman, became California's first judge and was appointed to the esteemed Sacramento County Superior Court. Born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, Jaya Badiga embarked on her legal journey after receiving her early education in Hyderabad.
Jaya Badiga further did her higher education in reputed universities. She further honed her skills, earning a Juris Doctor degree from Santa Clara University School of Law, complemented by an MA in International Relations and International Communications from Boston University. Jaya Badiga's appointment marks a rare honour, highlighting her exceptional legal acumen and dedication to justice.
Governor Newsom has also appointed another 18 Superior Court Judges, Including Raj Singh Badhesha, who is also of Indian origin.
